All communication is storytelling

All communication is storytelling

If you’ve ever attended my workshops, you may have heard me say once, twice or fifty thousand times that all communication is storytelling.  That’s right, we can use our storytelling skills every time we open our mouth, or computer, to convey SOMETHING to another human being.

This is because every communication is an opportunity to recount an event, together with a message, to another person.

In  this great article, Lucy Jolin describes some the contexts in which you might want to use storytelling.
She suggests deploying our storytelling weapon during recruitment to convey the nature of your organisation’s culture to potential recruits, when you are pitching to create better buy-in, and even by the proverbial water cooler, to encourage team members to get to know each other better.

It’s a great read!  I’d check it out.
